MERCEDES AMG G 63 6X6

🇩🇪 The desert six-legged🚗

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 6×6 is a pick-up truck manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. The G-class Mercedes served as a kind of basis for this six-wheel drive SUV. The German themed exhibition at the 365 Oldtimer Museum has already ended, but some of the Mercedes remained for the duration of the currently running Japanese themed exhibition. Although the main character of our article is not visible in the exhibition, it is just an interesting point, but his story is interesting, let’s get into it!
The Mercedes AMG 6X6 was produced from early 2013 to May 2015 by the car manufacturer Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. More than 100 copies rolled off the production line. It was produced in small numbers in order to preserve the uniqueness of the car. At the time of production, it was the company’s largest and second most expensive street-legal SUV. It is the successor to a vehicle originally developed by AMG for the Australian Army, with three axles. It is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine, which is 5.5-liter, marked M157, and produces 536 horsepower. The gearbox is 7-speed, automatic. The car was produced with a pick-up version of the body of the G-Class and a luxurious interior. Its comfort is comparable to the S class. It weighs more than 4 tons and has a top speed of 161 km/h.
Otherwise, six-wheel drive is mostly limited to military vehicles, such as all-terrain vehicles and armored vehicles. This car is an exception, since the original military plans were put aside and it was started to be produced for civilian purposes, specifically aimed at the wealthier people of the East, such as Arab sheikhs. The car had more sales than expected.
The G63 AMG has a 6×6 air compressor that allows the tire pressure to be reduced or increased to match the grip to the driving surface. Thanks to its compressor solution, the vehicle holds its own in both on-road and off-road conditions. According to some opinions, it is one of the most suitable cars for desert conditions.
In 2015, Mercedes-Benz presented the Brabus AMG 6X6 limited, 15-unit RHD (right-hand drive = right-hand drive) version on the Malaysian market, which is the only right-hand drive version of the 6X6 in the world. Its original price was 698,888 Euros, which at the current exchange rate is roughly HUF 272,370,000.
This vehicle was featured in the 2015 film Jurassic World. To this day, it has many admirers and is sought after by collectors not only because of its low number of pieces produced, but also because of its extravagant appearance and luxurious design. The AMG 6×6 was not really known for its restraint, which may be why Richard Hammond’s „Hamster” loved it so much.
