PLYMOUTH PROWLER

The Plymouth Prowler, later known as the Chrysler Prowler, is a retro-styled production sports car that was manufactured and marketed from 1997 to 2002. Let’s take a closer look at this unique automobile:
The Prowler’s design was inspired by 1930s-era hot rods. Chrysler’s design director, Thomas C. Gale, played a key role in its creation. He wanted to capture the spirit of classic roadsters, resulting in the Prowler’s distinctive appearance.
One of the most eye-catching features of the Prowler is its open, Indy racer-style front wheels. The body style is that of a 2-door roadster, emphasizing sleek lines and a sporty profile.
Under the hood, the Prowler boasts a 3.5-liter EGG V6 engine producing 214 horsepower (160 kW) at 5850 rpm. For the 1999 model year, the engine was upgraded to an aluminum block version, delivering 253 horsepower (189 kW) at 6400 rpm.
Both engines were paired with a four-speed Autostick semi-automatic transmission. The transmission was uniquely located at the rear of the vehicle, connected to the engine by a torque tube, ensuring a desirable 50-50 front-rear weight distribution.
The Prowler was the first rear-wheel-drive Plymouth since the discontinuation of the Plymouth Gran Fury in 1989. It would also stand as the last Plymouth model with that layout. Its unique blend of retro styling and modern performance left a lasting impression.
With an overall production of 11,702 units, the Plymouth Prowler remains a fascinating piece of automotive history, capturing the essence of classic hot rods in a contemporary package.

Prowler Black Tie Edition:
Introduced in 1999, this limited-edition variant featured a Prowler Purple Metallic exterior color. The interior was adorned with Agate leather seats and a matching Agate instrument panel. Only 457 units of the Black-Tie Edition were produced, making it quite rare.
Woodward Edition:
Released in 2001, the Woodward Edition celebrated the Woodward Dream Cruise, an iconic automotive event in Michigan. It came in a Deep Candy Red Metallic exterior hue. The interior showcased Dark Slate Gray leather seats and a matching Dark Slate Gray instrument panel. A total of 153 units of the Woodward Edition were manufactured.
Both of these special editions added a touch of exclusivity to the already distinctive Prowler, appealing to collectors and enthusiasts alike.
