Earlier this year, the Porsche Taycan received a brutal mid-cycle update. It has gained more power, longer range and even faster charging. Now the Taycan’s mechanical twin, the Audi E-Tron GT, is getting the same treatment. The model range includes three versions: the Audi S E-Tron GT, the RS E-Tron GT and the RS E-Tron GT Performance. The latter is not only the first electric Audi RS Performance model, but also holds the crown of the most powerful production Audi ever made.
Visually, the new E-Tron GT is not that different from before. It received a few updates, such as a body color strip above the ‘grille’ and a 3D honeycomb grille on RS models. The front air intake openings have also become slightly sportier. However, the E-Tron GT still retains the aggressive headlights, arrow-like taillights and low, muscular stance as before. Both RS models also get a new wheel design, as it looks like a hollow spoke version of Audi’s classic ‘Avus’ wheel design.
Inside, everything looks familiar, with an almost identical dashboard, center console and infotainment screen. The new digital gauge has been updated to match Audi’s other new electric vehicles, and the steering wheel is also new. All models have a flat top and bottom steering wheel, but RS models get a red stripe down the middle and two red buttons labeled „Boost” and „RS”. The former provides a 10-second, 94-horsepower boost that makes the most of the sedan’s power, while the latter button toggles the car’s two customizable RS driving modes. However, a big interior innovation is the optional sunroof, which changes from opaque to transparent at the push of a button.
The major updates are under the hood. Like the Taycan, all new E-Tron GT models feature a higher-capacity 105kWh (97kWh usable) battery that weighs nearly 9kg less than the older, lower-capacity battery. The new package allows the longest-range S E-Tron GT to travel up to 605 kilometers between charges. However, if you need to charge, all E-Tron GT models now support up to 320 kW charging, which will allow you to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. However, charging is not the only thing that is faster. The top-of-the-line Audi RS E-Tron GT Performance now produces 912 horsepower, more than any other Audi in history.
This massive output falls short of the Taycan Turbo S’s 938bhp peak, but it’s still enough to propel the RS E-Tron GT Performance from 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds. As for the S E-Tron GT, this model has 670 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Finally, the middle RS E-Tron GT has 844 horsepower and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds.
In addition to the active suspension, there is an additional optional four-wheel steering system that turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels by up to 2.8 degrees at low speeds. This reduces the turning circle by 62 centimeters.
Ever since the Audi E-Tron GT first debuted, it has always been second favorite to its older, more expensive, more powerful Porsche Taycan sibling. And while the Taycan is still technically faster and wins the battle on paper, the gap has shrunk closer than ever.
