WOLFGANG JOSEF EGGER

He is a German car designer, previously chief designer of European luxury car brands Alfa Romeo, Audi and Lamborghini, and currently designer of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD Auto.
He was born in Oberstdorf, Germany, and studied design at International College of Arts and Sciences in Milan. He graduated as an industrial designer in 1989. He began his professional career in 1989 in the design department of Alfa Romeo. In 1993, he was appointed chief designer of Alfa Romeo.
In 1998, he became SEAT’s chief designer, where he was able to apply his views and ideas to models such as the SEAT Ibiza, Cordoba and Altea. In 2001, he was appointed designer of Lancia. In the same year, however, he returned to Alfa Romeo as chief designer. Among the cars developed by Alfa Romeo under his direction were the Nuvola Concept, 156, 166, 147 and 8C Competizione.
In 2017, he became BYD’s Director of Design. The Chinese carmaker entrusted him with the development of their design identity, starting with the hybrid BYD Song Max model and several other electric vehicles, including the BYD B series bus. He designed the BYD Han, which went on sale in 2020.
Wolfgang Egger is a founder and CEO of the publicly listed real estate company Patrizia AG. Based in Augsburg, Germany, the company employs around 800 people in 24 global offices and manages real estate assets worth more than $50 billion.
Egger started Patricia in 1984, at the age of 19, and published it in 2006. He remains the largest shareholder, with just over 50%.
